Building Design
Site services, HVAC, service water, plumbing, steam, fire suppression, refrigeration, DDC
and conventional control systems have been designed, specified and tendered for hundreds
of projects. Unusual applications have included submarines, art galleries, surgical rooms,
archives, large data processing centres, hospitals, a coffee roasting facility, a glass
blowing studio, and a ship repair unit.
Our Spectrum School (SD 61) energy retrofit project won the ASHRAE Region XI (Oregon to
Alaska to Manitoba) Technology Award Competition in 1990. Our design of a Ground-coupled
chilled water system for The Butchart Gardens won the same award in 2000. The 90,000 ft2
Mosaic Building (Fort St., Victoria) won The National Post Design Exchange Silver Award
(2000) for Built Environments, Grande Projects.
Complete upgrades have been designed for a number of large boiler and chiller plants such
as the BC Legislative Precinct Central Plant, The Royal Jubilee Hospital steam plant, The
Pacific Forestry Centre central boiler system).
Avalon is LEED® certified by the US Green Building Counsel, and an approved Building Owner's
Representative under the BC Green Building Retrofit Program. Avalon has taken the role of
LEED® Accredited Professional, Commissioning Authority, and Energy Simulator on LEED® projects.
